Oswegatchie, New York

Oswegatchie is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 4,397 at the 2010 census. The name reportedly means "Black water" in the aboriginal language. It is on the northern border of the county and is adjacent to the city of Ogdensburg.

The area was first explored by French missionaries during the 17th century. The town was founded in 1802 upon the formation of the county. After the end of the French and Indian War, the British renamed the former French community of La Gallette as Oswegatchie, the name of the local native tribe. After the end of the American Revolution, the community became Ogdensburg, named for Samuel Ogden, who was a member of a group of land speculators and developers who purchased a large tract of land in the region. During the War of 1812 Ogdensburg and much of the town was captured by British forces. In 1817, the community of Ogdensburg set itself apart from the town by incorporating as a village, and became the City of Ogdensburg in 1868. The Town of Morristown was formed from the western part of Oswegatchie in 1821. Another part was used to make part of the Town of De Peyster in 1825.

Mater Dei College was opened in 1960 and closed in 2001.

West Babylon, New York

West Babylon is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 43,213 at the 2010 census.[3]

West Babylon is located at 40°43′49″N 73°21′27″W / 40.73028°N 73.35750°W / 40.73028; -73.35750 (40.713399, -73.357106).[4]

West Babylon is bordered to the west by Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst, to the northwest by East Farmingdale, to the north by Wyandanch, to the northeast by Deer Park, to the east by North Babylon and the Village of Babylon, and to the south by the Great South Bay.

Hewlett, New York

Hewlett is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York on the South Shore of Long Island. As of the United States 2010 Census, the CDP population was 6,819. Hewlett Bay Park and Hewlett Harbor consist of many mansions and harbor villas with very large property, a few dating back to the time of the American Revolution. This area, like Back/Old Lawrence is unique because its rural affluence is similar in character to the more well known Gold Coast of the North Shore instead of being more urbanized like the rest of the South Shore of Nassau County.

Hewlett is usually included as one of the Five Towns in the southwestern corner of Nassau County. In the context of the Five Towns, "The Hewletts" or "Hewlett" is often used to refer collectively to the hamlet of Hewlett, together with the villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck, along with Woodsburgh.[1]

All the communities within Hewlett are part of the Hewlett-Woodmere School District or the Lynbrook Union Free School District.

Three Mile Bay, New York

Three Mile Bay is a community (and census-designated place) located in Jefferson County, New York. The elevation there is 259 feet.[1] It was settled between 1810 and 1820. Early resident Asa Wilcox built 48 brigs, propellers, schooners, and other seafaring vessels from 1835 to 1853. Some of these vessels like the A.E. Vickery, ultimately joined the more than 500 shipwrecked vessels now resting at the bottom of the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario.[2][3]

The hamlet has its own post office, a volunteer fire company, and boat launches for fishing and recreation in the various outlying bays that draw from Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence seaway.

Roslyn Heights, New York

Roslyn Heights (aka The Heights) is both a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Roslyn area, which is anchored by the Village of Roslyn. The population was 6,577 at the 2010 census.

Roslyn Heights is in the eastern part of the Town of North Hempstead at exit 37 on the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495). The Zip Code for Roslyn Heights is 11577.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2), all land.
