Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many business also now offer the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

Numerous companies offer mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in the house, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS innovation. In this manner, if you get lost or push the call button for aid but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now use the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to speak with a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

Many companies use mobile options, too. You can use these systems at home, but they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for help but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

Wanakena is a hamlet located on the shore of Cranberry Lake in the town of Fine in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. Tourism is a major industry in the area; a small year-round population is supplemented by an influx seasonal residents each Summer. It is the location of the SUNY-ESF Ranger School.

The town was founded in 1902 by brothers Herbert and Horace Rich, founders of the Rich Brothers Lumber Company. Rich Lumber purchased 16,000 acres (65 km2) on the southwestern shore of Cranberry Lake, and constructed several mills to work the lumber. Housing for the millworkers was built in part from lumber salvaged from the company's abandoned Pennsylvania lumber operation with many of these homes still in existence. At the height of lumbering & milling activities in Wanakena (1902-1912) there were up to 1500 workers at the Rich Brothers mill and associated industries. Prior to leaving the deforested area, Rich Lumber Company donated land to Syracuse University to start the first school in the nation to educate forest rangers and to encourage sustainable forestry practices with the first school built in 1912. The Environmental School of Forestry is now part of SUNY and is the oldest Ranger School / School of Forestry in the country.

A logging railroad was constructed connecting Wanakena to the Carthage and Adirondack Railroad at Benson Mines, starting operation in 1905. After the lumber insustry left the area, the rails were dismantled because of a significant decrease in people traveling to and from Wanakena.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies likewise now offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your house.

But lots of companies use mobile choices, too. You can use these systems at home, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for aid but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many business also now use the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

However many companies use mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and include GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for aid however are not able to talk, the tracking service can find you.

Staatsburg is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Hyde Park, a town in Dutchess County, New York. The population was 377 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area.

Staatsburg is located in the northwestern corner of Hyde Park and is bordered on the west by the Hudson River.

Staatsburg was part of the Pawling-Staats land patent, one of many granted by the English colonial government in the 1690s with the intention of encouraging more colonials to settle in the sparsely populated Hudson Valley. The original patent was made to Henry Pawling.[2] Subsequently, a large portion of the patent was purchased by Dr. Samuel Staats, a surgeon of Dutch origins who resided in New York City.[3] He and Dirck Vanderburgh bought it for 130 pounds from Pawling's widow. As a result of the combination of their names the area came to be known as "Staatsburgh".[4] The concluding "h" in the name appears to have been dropped in 1890 as part of the United States Board on Geographic Names' standardization efforts.[5]
