Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of companies likewise now use the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your house.

However numerous business offer mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in the house, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and integrate GPS innovation. This way, if you get lost or press the call button for help but are not able to talk, the monitoring service can find you.

      1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

      1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Lynbrook is a village in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 19,427 at the 2010 census. The Incorporated Village of Lynbrook is inside the Town of Hempstead, neighboring Malverne to the north, Valley Stream to the west, Hewlett to the southwest, East Rockaway to the southeast, and Rockville Centre to the east. The Village of Lynbrook's current mayor is Alan Beach.

Lynbrook is part of New York's 4th congressional district, which is currently represented by Democrat Kathleen M. Rice. Lynbrook is also part of New York State Senate District 9. It is also part of the New York State 14th Assembly District, which is represented by Republican Brian F. Curran, who resides in Lynbrook. Long Island Rail Road service to the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn is available at the Lynbrook station located off Sunrise Highway between Peninsula Boulevard and Broadway. There is also the Westwood station located off Whitehall Street that provides service to the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.

The area currently known as Lynbrook had other names, including Rechquaakie (originally), Near Rockaway, Parson's Corners, and Bloomfield. It was later named Pearsall's Corners, after Mr. Pearsall's General Store because this store became a famous stage coach stop for travelers coming from New York City to Long Island. Alternately, it was called "Five Corners" because the stage coach stop was at the crossing of Hempstead Avenue, Merrick Road, and Broadway. It became known as Lynbrook in 1894 and the village was incorporated in 1911.[2] The name "Lynbrook" is derived by dividing "Brooklyn" into its syllables and transposing them, a tribute to the original home of many of the town's turn-of-the-century residents.

Phoenicia is located in the northeast part of Town of Shandaken, on Route 28. It is the largest community in the town. The village is located on Route 28, right at the junction with Route 214, and is next to Esopus Creek.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many business also now provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

Lots of companies offer mobile options, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll likewise allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the tracking service can find you.
