  • Black River (New York)

The Black River is a 125-mile-long (201 km)[4]blackwater river that empties into the eastern end of Lake Ontario on the shore of Jefferson County, New York in the United States. The origin of the name is not clear, but it may stem from the natural tannic acid that darkens the water in places. The river flows in a generally northwest direction, with its valley dividing the Adirondack Mountains on the east from the Tug Hill region to the west.

The Black River originates at North Lake in the foothills of the Adirondacks, in Herkimer County, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Boonville. The river flows west into Oneida County then north, past Forestport and Boonville into Lewis County. At Lyons Falls, it is joined by the Moose River from the east just above the eponymous waterfall, where the river drops 70 feet (21 m) over a gneiss cliff.[5]

Near Glenfield the Black River receives the smaller tributaries of Otter Creek and the Independence River, also from the east. Further north, it passes Lowville, then receives the Beaver River from the east, then the Deer River, its only major western tributary. Starting above Carthage the river briefly divides Lewis and Jefferson Counties before crossing entirely into Jefferson County, where it turns sharply west toward Lake Ontario, flowing past Great Bend, Black River and Watertown. Below Watertown it enters a canyon, well known for its challenging rapids.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous business also now offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

Numerous business provide mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems in the house, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS innovation. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the tracking service can find you.

      1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

      1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous business also now provide the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

But many business offer mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll likewise permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for aid however are not able to talk, the tracking service can find you.

Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of business also now offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your home.

Lots of companies provide mobile choices, too. You can utilize these systems at home, however they’ll likewise enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

Corinth is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 6,531 at the 2010 census.[2] The town contains a village also named Corinth. The town is on the northeast border of the county, north of Saratoga Springs. The town is noted as "the snowshoe capital of the world".[4]

Around 1763, after the French and Indian War, Ebenezer Jessup and his brother Edward from Luzerne began lumbering operations in the town. They floated rafts of logs down the Hudson. To bypass Palmer Falls they landed the rafts at a place called "Jessup's Landing", now the public beach of the Village of Corinth. They loaded the logs onto wagons and carted them around the falls.[5] During the American Revolution the Jessups sided with the Loyalists and fled to Canada, where they commanded a unit known as "Jessup's Loyal Rangers".[6] For a long time the area was known as Jessup's Landing. The first permanent settlement in this area was around 1777, when Joseph Eggleston moved from Wilton to escape British raiders. John W. Taylor moved from Charlton to Jessup's Landing around 1808 and helped organize the Town of Corinth in 1818.[7]

Around 1790 Ambrose Clothier moved from Connecticut and built a cabin near Lake Bonita on Mount McGregor.[8] He had three sons and three daughters, and all his sons were noted fiddlers. The area around Beaver Brook near the Hudson is today known as "Clothier Hollow".Other early settlers in this area were Benjamin Ide, Jonathan Hodges, William Grippen, Lawrence Barber, Jonathan Barrass, and Hathaway Randall.[7]
