    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many business also now provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to speak to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

But numerous business use mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems at home, but they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS innovation. In this manner, if you get lost or press the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

Hauppauge (/ˈhɔːpɒɡ/ HAW-pog) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the towns of Islip and Smithtown in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 20,882 at the time of the 2010 census.[1]

Hauppauge is located at 40°49′6″N 73°12′25″W / 40.81833°N 73.20694°W / 40.81833; -73.20694 (40.818205, -73.206878).[2] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.8 square miles (28.1 km2), of which 10.7 square miles (27.7 km2) is land and 0.15 square miles (0.4 km2), or 1.37%, is water.[1] The name comes from the Native American word for "sweet waters." Local Native American tribes would get their fresh drinking water from this area, instead of near Lake Ronkonkoma where the water was not drinkable. Hauppauge is known for the underground water springs and high underground water table.

According to the historian Simeon Wood, the first house in greater Hauppauge dates to 1731, being located on what would be the Arbuckle Estate, and later the southeast corner of the Hauppauge Industrial Park, near the intersection of Motor Parkway and Old Willets Path.[3] The settlement of Hauppauge proper commenced with the family of Thomas Wheeler prior to 1753, at the present-day location of the Wave gas station between Townline and Wheeler Road.[3] The locale would take the Wheelers' name as its own until the 1860s when the name Hauppauge was restored.[3] On March 13, 1806, "a meeting of the male members of the Methodist Society of the 'Haupogues' was convened at the School House agreeable to public notice for the express purpose of Incorporating and Electing Trustees for said Society." The first trustees elected at the meeting presided by Timothy Wheeler and Issac Wheeler were Issac Nichols, Elkanah Wheeler, George Wheeler, and Samuel Brush. They were known as the "Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Congregation of the Haupogues".[4] In 1812 the Hauppauge Methodist Church that stands today was constructed on land donated by the Wheeler family.

Lots of business also now offer the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.

Many business use mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems in the house, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or press the call button for aid but are not able to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

Savannah is a town in the southeast portion of Wayne County, New York, United States. The population was 1,730 at the 2010 census.[5]

The town has a hamlet (and census-designated place), also called Savannah. Government offices for the town are located there.

Fort Hill, located on the highest land in the town, is a historic native village and was the site of a Jesuit mission in the 17th Century, built by the remains of an earlier, "Owasco," village. Like other nearby towns, Savannah was part of the Central New York Military Tract. Settlers arrived in more modern times around 1808, but Savannah is considered to be the last town in the county that was settled.

In case you are wondering how a machine knows that a human has actually lifted the phone, then here is how it works. When a person takes the call, he is asked to enter in a number. If the number is gotten in correctly, then the system presumes that it is a live individual and not an answering machine. Then the system will play the message for the individual raising the call.

In a 2-way system, a 2-way interaction is established between the person in distress and the emergency alert service provider. This is why it is essential you choose a reliable company. It is well worth the few extra dollars spent each month, in return for quality service and reaction.

Some 2-way provider will offer extra service. For instance some alarm business will pull up medical records of the patient to identify if he has any recognized medical problems. This ensures immediate service and can prevent a lot of hassle and frustration.

Panic buttons for the elderly can be used as a bracelet, pendant or on the belt. They are normally water proof so there is no concerns with the emergency alert systems getting spoiled due to moisture.
