St. James, New York

St. James is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 13,338 at the 2010 census.[1] St. James is part of the Town of Smithtown and is located on the North Shore of Long Island. The ZIP code is 11780.

In the early 20th century, St. James was a popular vacation spot for glitterati of the stage and screen. Summer residents included Lionel, Ethel, and John Barrymore, Buster Keaton, Myrna Loy, and Irving Berlin, among others.[2][3] Noteworthy persons of the hamlet have included Stanford White, architect; William Jay Gaynor, New York State Supreme Court Justice and Mayor of New York City; Mick Foley, professional wrestler; Soledad O'Brien, television personality; John Miceli, drummer for Meat Loaf; and John Petrucci, lead guitar player for Dream Theater.[2]

The St. James General Store, located on Moriches Road, is said to be the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States.[2] It and a number of other historic structures were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as part of the Saint James District.[4]

Machias, New York

Machias is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 2,375 at the 2010 census.[3] Machias is an interior town in the northeast quadrant of the county. It is northeast of the city of Salamanca.

The area that would become Machias was first settled around 1813, and the town was established in 1827 from the town of Yorkshire. In 1847, Machias was increased by additional territory from Yorkshire. Machias received its name from Maine settlers.

Dominique Swain

Dominique Swain (born August 12, 1980) is an American actress. She is best known for her roles as the title character in the 1997 film adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita, and as Sean Archer's daughter, Jamie Archer in the film Face/Off.

Swain was born on August 12, 1980 in Malibu, California, the daughter of Cindy (née Fitzgerald) and David Swain, Sr., an electrical engineer.[1] She has two sisters, Chelsea (born 1982/1983) and Alexis (born 1978/1979), and a step-sister and brother from her father's first marriage. Swain grew up in Malibu where she attended Malibu High School, and enjoyed playing sports, making art, and listening to music. Swain excelled at learning, earning straight A's and becoming Valedictorian like her sister before her. Her parents are separated.[2]

Swain started her career in Hollywood as a stunt double; she appeared as the double for Macaulay Culkin's younger sister Quinn in Joseph Ruben's The Good Son (1993). In 1995, at the age of 15, she was chosen out of 2,500 girls to play the title role of Dolores "Lolita" Haze in Adrian Lyne's controversial 1997 screen adaptation of Lolita. She was 15 during filming and her performance was praised by critics. She later then played the rebellious teen Jamie Archer in John Woo's Face/Off (1997).[3][4][5] She starred in the 1998 drama film Girl, in which she plays a high-schooler who is determined to lose her virginity. She then played a central role in the 2006 film Alpha Dog.[6] In 2009, Swain appeared in Starz Inside: Sex and the Cinema which discussed the depiction of sex in film.[7] That same year, she was featured in the movie Noble Things, about the country star Jimmy Wayne Collins, which also starred country musician Lee Ann Womack.[8] Swain also starred in the horror/slasher film Fall Down Dead as the main character, Christie Wallace.[9] She starred in Monte Hellman's romance thriller Road to Nowhere in 2010.[10] In 2011, Swain was featured in David Ren's action thriller The Girl from the Naked Eye.[11] She starred in the direct-to-video science fiction film Nazis at the Center of the Earth in 2012.[12] In 2013, Swain starred in Gregory Hatanaka's drama film Blue Dream as Gena Townsend.[13] In 2015 she was in the independent action film Skin Traffik alongside Mickey Rourke, Daryl Hannah, Eric Roberts and Michael Madsen,[14]

Rexville, New York

Rexville is a hamlet in Steuben County, New York, United States. The community is located along New York State Route 248 13.2 miles (21.2 km) south-southwest of Canisteo. Rexville has a post office with ZIP code 14877, which opened on July 10, 1855.[2][3]

Jordan, New York

Jordan is a village in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,368 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named after the Jordan River.[2]

Jordan is located in the northwest part of the town of Elbridge, west of Syracuse.

The village bloomed with the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. Due to the canal, Jordan became larger than Elbridge Village, farther south.
