Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were created to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now use the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak with a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.

Lots of companies provide mobile choices, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, however they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for help but are not able to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many business also now provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your house.

However many companies provide mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll likewise enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or press the call button for assistance however are not able to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

Cornwall-on-Hudson is a riverfront village in the town of Cornwall, Orange County, New York. It lies on the west bank of the Hudson River about 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City.

The population as of the 2010 census was 3,018. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown metropolitan area as well as the larger New York metropolitan area.

The village was part of the Governor Dongan tract of 1685. Willisville was an early name for Cornwall-on-Hudson. Settlement in the area occurred at Cornwall Landing, a hamlet on the Hudson River below Butter Hill. It was the only river landing in the town. In the early 1800s, Daniel Tobias sailed a sloop from Cornwall Landing. As there was no direct communication between the river and the table-land above, in 1807, his brother, Isaac S. Tobias, built a road, at his own expense, as far as the first bridge on the road to Willisville.[2] The Mead and Taft Company lumberyard once employed 500 people at the Landing. Cornwall Landing became a commercial hub with its own post office. The Landing began to decline after World War II when passenger train service ended, and Conrail demolished the buildings. Cornwall-on-Hudson incorporated as a village in 1885, within the Town of Cornwall.[citation needed]

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now use the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

However lots of companies offer mobile options, too. You can use these systems at home, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for aid however are not able to talk, the monitoring service can find you.

Hicksville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States, on Long Island. The population of the CDP was 41,547 at the 2010 census.

Valentine Hicks, son-in-law of nationally famous abolitionist and Quaker preacher Elias Hicks, and eventual president of the Long Island Rail Road, bought land in the village in 1834 and turned it into a station stop on the LIRR in 1837. The station became a depot for produce, particularly cucumbers for a Heinz Company plant. After a blight destroyed the cucumber crops, the farmers grew potatoes. It turned into a bustling New York City suburb in the building boom following World War II.[1][2]

Metalab, Equipment Company, a division of Norbute Corp, made laboratory furniture and cabinetry.[3] Alsy Manufacturing manufactured electric lamps and lampshades from 1975 through 1991.[3]
