Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now offer the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your home.

Numerous companies use mobile choices, too. You can utilize these systems in your home, but they’ll likewise allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and integrate GPS innovation. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for aid but are not able to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Waterville (called Ska-na-wis, "long swamp" by the Haudenosaunee[4]) is a village in Oneida County, New York, United States. According to the 2010 census, its population was 1,583.

Long the traditional territory of the Iroquoian-speaking Oneida people of the Haudenosaunee, the Waterville area was first settled by European Americans circa 1792 after the United States victory in the American Revolutionary War. The US forced the Iroquois Confederacy to cede most of its land in New York state. The settlement was known as "The Huddle". In 1808, the settlement formally took the name of Waterville. The village is named after Waterville, Maine.[5]

Hops (humulus lupulus) were introduced to the area in about 1820; by 1875, Waterville was considered the "Hops Capital of the World."[6] Several inventions related to the cultivation and curing of hops were developed locally, the most important of which was liquid hop extract. The International Hop Stock Exchange was established in the 1860s.

Basically a panic button is an emergency button which can be pressed in case of an emergency, whether it be a fall, or cardiovascular disease. These panic buttons can be used around the neck or as a bracelet.

Panic buttons can be one method or 2-way. A one way panic button for the elderly will operate in one way just. The person in distress presses a button, which sends a signal. Usually this will place an emergency call to the numbers already programmed into the system.

When an individual takes the call, he is asked to enter in a number. If the number is gotten in properly, then the system presumes that it is a live individual and not an answering device. The system will play the message for the individual lifting the call.

In a 2-way system, a 2-way communication is developed between the individual in distress and the emergency alert service provider. This is why it is very important you choose a dependable provider. It is well worth the few extra dollars invested per month, in return for quality service and response.

Some 2-way service providers will provide extra service. Some alarm business will pull up medical records of the patient to determine if he has any recognized medical issues. This ensures instant service and can prevent a lot of trouble and frustration.

Panic buttons for the senior can be worn as a bracelet, pendant or on the belt. They are typically water proof so there is no concerns with the emergency alert systems getting ruined due to moisture.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of business also now provide the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your house.

However lots of companies offer mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

Using a medical alarm can successfully eliminate the primary reason for going into an assisted living situation and allows seniors to have their dignity and freedom intact.

Ozone Park is a neighborhood located in the southwestern section of the borough of Queens, in New York City, New York, United States. It borders Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, Howard Beach, and City Line, Brooklyn.[3][4][5] Different parts of the neighborhood are covered by Queens Community Board 9 and 10.[6] The neighborhood is located in the Fifth Congressional District, and is represented by Democrat Gregory Meeks.

The northern border is Atlantic Avenue; the southern border is South Conduit Avenue, and the eastern border is 108th Street.[3] The western border is the county line with Brooklyn (mostly along Ruby and Drew Streets[7]). It is the home of the Aqueduct Racetrack, a popular spot for Thoroughbred racing. The neighborhood is known for its large Italian-American population.

The current ground level of Ozone Park is about four feet higher than the original ground level.[original research?] Initially the avenues and cross streets were raised above ground level and then all of the basements were set on ground level and the land was backfilled around the houses. The older houses that were at the original ground level now appear "sunken"; these can be observed on the south side of Sutter Avenue between 83rd and 85th streets.
