Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

However lots of companies offer mobile choices, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and include GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for help but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were created to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous business also now use the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system located in your home.

Lots of companies use mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in the house, however they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS innovation. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for help but are unable to talk, the tracking service can find you.

Water Mill is a hamlet of the Town of Southampton on Long Island and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 1,559 at the 2010 census.[3] Its ZIP code is 11976.

As of 2010, Water Mill was listed as the fourteenth most expensive ZIP code in the United States by Forbes. The median home price was $2,965,097.[4]

In 1644, England gave Edward Howell 40 acres (16 ha) of land near the new settlement of Southampton to build a mill for settlers to grind their grain into meal. It became a landmark, and people began referring to other settlements that popped up as "east or west of the watermill." By the 1800s, the area was known as Water Mills and was later changed to Water Mill. Howell's Water Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.[5] Today, the hamlet boasts its status as the only settlement on the South Fork of Long Island with both a functioning watermill and windmill. Today Water Mill is a resort community of beautiful beaches, farms and mega mansions. Celebrities and public figures such as Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Matt Lauer, Senator Frank Lautenberg, Steven Schwartzman and Bruce Blakeman have homes or vacationed there. Louise Fitzhugh's young adult novel The Long Secret takes place in Water Mill.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies likewise now use the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

Many companies provide mobile choices, too. You can use these systems at home, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for assistance but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

Tomkins Cove is a hamlet in the Town of Stony Point, Rockland County, New York, United States located north of Stony Point; east of Harriman State Park; south of Doodletown and west of the Hudson River. It is located north-northwest of New York City. The population is approximately 1,739 and the ZIP Code is 10986. The community served by the 786 exchange in Area Code 845.

Tomkins Cove comprises approximately 8 square miles (21 km2). Notable areas within the town are Tomkins Lake Colony (a private community with a small lake), Rising Hills Estates, Buckberg Mountain, the Girl Scout Camp (Camp Addisone Boyce), the Town Pool, the Tomkins Cove Library, and Cedar Flats Road. Mott Farm Road extends west from US 9W to Bulsontown Road. A natural gas pipeline runs from the Hudson River into Stony Point. Much of the Tomkins Cove perimeter borders Bear Mountain State Park. Tomkins Cove prides itself on having a cut through of the Appalachian trail which leads into Bear Mountain. It is one of the more rural communities in Rockland County. Tomkins Cove is accessible from Exit 15 on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

In 1838 Calvin Tomkins and his brother Daniel purchased approximately 20 acres (81,000 m2) of land, located in a cove north of the Stony Point promontory, underlaid with rock suitable for burning along the river shore for the purpose of making lime. The village grew around the works and when the post office was opened at this site, it was named after the founder's name and its location.
