Mount Morris, New York

Mount Morris is a town in Livingston County, New York, United States. The population was 4,465 at the 2010 census. The town and village were named after Robert Morris, the financier of the American Revolution.

The Town of Mount Morris has a village also called Mount Morris. The town is on the western border of the county and borders Letchworth State Park.

The region was first settled around 1784. It was first known as "Allens Hill" and then as "Richmond Hill." The town was formed from the Town of Leicester in 1818. The former Genesee Valley Canal passed through the town.

Clinton County, New York

Clinton County is a county in the state of New York, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 82,128.[1] Its county seat is the city of Plattsburgh.[2] The county is named after George Clinton, the first Governor of New York, who went on to become Vice President, having been a Founding Father who represented New York in the Continental Congress. The county lies to the south of the border with the Canadian province of Quebec.

Clinton County comprises the Plattsburgh, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area.

When counties were established in New York State in 1683, the present Clinton County was part of Albany County. This was an enormous county, including the northern part of New York State as well as all of the present state of Vermont and, in theory, extending westward to the Pacific Ocean. This county was reduced in size on July 3, 1766, by the creation of Cumberland County, and further on March 16, 1770, by the creation of Gloucester County, both containing territory now in Vermont. On March 12, 1772, what was left of Albany County was split into three parts, one remaining under the name Albany County. One of the other pieces, Charlotte County, contained the eastern portion.

Old Chatham, New York

Old Chatham is a hamlet in the northeast quadrant of the town of Chatham, located in Columbia County, New York. It is one of the earliest settlements in the town and was originally named Chatham.[1]

The center of Old Chatham is marked by a few businesses around the intersection of the Albany Turnpike and County Rt. 13. These businesses include the United States Post Office for area code 12136, the Old Chatham Country Store (which includes a cafe/restaurant), and Jackson's Old Chatham House (another restaurant). The Old Chatham Sheepherding Company is also located in Old Chatham. The Wilbor House, also known as The Thompson Farm, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.[2] Old Chatham is also the headquarters of Blass Communications. The town hosts a parade and sing-along that attracts over 1,000 people annually.

Guilderland Center, New York

Guilderland Center is a hamlet in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York. The hamlet lies along New York Route 146 and the Black Creek, a tributary of the Normans Kill.

Guilderland Center includes the factories established at French's Mills, the first of these was built in 1795 by Peter Broeck. The name French's Mills (also referred to as French's Hollow) comes from Abel French who established a mill of his own here in 1800.[1] French's Hollow and the mills were mostly destroyed when the Black Creek was dammed for the creation of the Watervliet Reservoir in 1916. Abel French's Mill was razed and became the site of the pumping station.[2] Guilderland Center was originally called by the locals Bang-all, in reference to ill effects and reputation that rum, horse racing, and the rough manners of the place brought. Around 1803 when the town of Guilderland was formed from Watervliet the name Guilderland Center began to come into fashion, the post office when established also took the name Guilderland Center. By 1866 the hamlet had a population of 450.[1] In 1860 District Number 6 Cobblestone School was built in Guilderland Center, and though the building has not been used as such since 1941 but is still owned by the Guilderland Central School District.[2] The school building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

As a hamlet the borders of Guilderland Center are indeterminate. Generally Guilderland Center is along New York Route 146 from Van Buren Boulevard west to Hurst Road, and includes adjacent areas along School Road (Albany County Route 201) and Depot Road (Albany County Route 202) to their common intersection; and the length of Hurst and French Mill roads. Guilderland Center lies to the south of the Watervliet Reservoir along the Black Creek.

Munnsville, New York

Munnsville is a village located in the Town of Stockbridge in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 474 at the 2010 census. The village is named for an early settler, Asa Munn and located on New York State Route 46.

Asa Munn opened a mercantile business in the community around 1817.

In 1990 the village received national media attention and interviews by Connie Chung when a local dairy farmer, Delbert Ward, allegedly murdered his brother William Ward by suffocation. Delbert was found not guilty at trial. In 1992 this incident was examined in the documentary Brother's Keeper.
