Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies also now offer the choice of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

However many companies provide mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems at home, however they’ll likewise permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. In this manner, if you get lost or press the call button for help but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

      1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous business likewise now offer the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak to a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your house.

Numerous companies offer mobile choices, too. You can use these systems at home, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and include GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for aid but are not able to talk, the monitoring service can find you.

Middle Village is a mainly residential neighborhood in the central section of the borough of Queens, New York City, bounded to the north by the Long Island Expressway, to the east by Woodhaven Boulevard, to the south by Cooper Avenue, and to the west by Mount Olivet Cemetery.[2] A small trapezoid-shaped area bounded by Mt. Olivet Crescent to the east, Fresh Pond Road to the west, Eliot Avenue to the north, and Metropolitan Avenue to the south, is often counted as part of Middle Village but is sometimes considered part of nearby Ridgewood.

Middle Village is bordered by the neighborhoods of Elmhurst to the north, Maspeth and Ridgewood to the west, Glendale to the south, and Rego Park to the east. In 2003, South Elmhurst, an area between Eliot Avenue and the Long Island Expressway, was reassigned from Elmhurst's ZIP code of 11373 to Middle Village's ZIP code of 11379. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community District 5, served by Queens Community Board 5.[3] Housing in the neighborhood is largely single-family homes with many attached homes, and small apartment buildings.

The area was settled around 1816 by people of English descent and was named in the early nineteenth century for its location as the midpoint between the then-towns of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Jamaica, Queens, on the Williamsburgh and Jamaica Turnpike (now Metropolitan Avenue), which opened in 1816.[2][4] It was generally sparsely populated because the large Juniper Swamp was in the area. The swamp, an area where the Americans hid from British in the American Revolutionary War, was originally circumscribed by a "Juniper Round Swamp Road".[5] In 1852, a Manhattan Lutheran church purchased the farmland on the western end of the hamlet.[4]

Cherry Valley is a town in Otsego County, New York, USA. The population was 1,224 at the 2010 census.[2]

Within the Town of Cherry Valley is a village, also called Cherry Valley. The town is in the northeast corner of the county and is northeast of the City of Oneonta.

The modern history of Cherry Valley begins with John Lindesay receiving a land grant from George II of England; he moved there in 1739, and seven Anglo-Scottish families from New Hampshire moved into the area the following year. Due to high snow, the community almost failed but was saved by provisions from local natives.
