And you can still go that route. Lots of business also now use the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

    1. Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies offer the option of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers say these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

    1. Whats the Cost?

Fees. Beware of complicated pricing plans and hidden fees. Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that offer free service or “donated or used” equipment.
Contracts. You should not have to enter into a long-term contract. You should only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if monthly fees have already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple people in the same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some states Medicaid may cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically necessary expense.

Ellisburg is a Town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 3,474 at the 2010 census.[2] The Town is in the southwestern corner of the county and is south of Watertown. Ellisburg is named after early European-American landowners. The town contains a village also called Ellisburg.

This was long the territory of various indigenous peoples. Prehistoric remains show evidence of indigenous occupation for thousands of years prior to European encounter. The St. Lawrence Iroquoians had villages along the upper St. Lawrence River into the late 1500s. Further south along the Great Lakes, the Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy controlled territory. In historic times this area was occupied by Iroquoian-speaking Onondaga, among the Five Nations who dominated the area with their Iroquois Confederacy at the time of European encounter. They identified as the Haudenosaunee.

The area of the present-day town was visited by Samuel de Champlain and other French explorers and missionaries in the 17th century. After the French established a colony in Canada, their traders did business with the Iroquois. Later these peoples primarily traded with Dutch and English colonists in present-day New York. Most of the Iroquois nations allied with the British during the American Revolutionary War. As a result of Great Britain's defeat, the United States forced the Iroquois to cede most of their territory in present-day New York, and the nations were resettled in Canada on reserves allocated by Great Britain.

  • Painted Post, New York

Painted Post is a village in Steuben County, New York, United States. The village is in the town of Erwin, west of the city of Corning. The population was 1,842 at the 2000 census. The name comes from a painted and carved post found by explorers at the junction of three local rivers.[2] Corning-Painted Post Airport (7N1) is west of the village.

According to village records, Painted Post was established as a village in 1803. The Erwin brothers are considered the first wealthy European descended settlers to have settled in the Painted Post area in the late 18th century (Painted Post village is in the town of Erwin, named for the brothers and incorporated in 1796). The brothers' 4 mansions are still standing. There are maps in existence dated 1796 which include Painted Post. The village was first incorporated in 1860 and officially re-incorporated in 1893. The name is derived from an historic, although probably unpainted, wooden post seen in the area at the end of the 18th century. The origin and purpose of the post remain controversial. A glyph of the post is visible on the aforementioned 1796 map.

The following footnote appears in French's Gazetteer of New York State[3] and gives two possible versions of the origin of the name:

Bowmansville is a hamlet located in the town of Lancaster in Erie County, New York, United States.[1] It is named after Benjamin Bowman, the owner of sawmills on Ellicott Creek in the center of the hamlet.

Bowmansville is located at 42°56′27″N 78°41′5″W / 42.94083°N 78.68472°W / 42.94083; -78.68472 (42.562793, -78.410556).[2] Bowmansville is in the northwest corner of the town and is centered on the Genesee Street Bridge (NY Route 33) over a cataract in Ellicott Creek. Downstream from Bowmansville, in the town of Cheektowaga, bordered by Ellicott Creek, is the Pfohl Brothers Landfill, a Superfund site.

The first settlers of the town of Lancaster, as near as can be ascertained, were James and Asa Woodward, in 1803, in Bowmansville. In 1808 a road was cut from Buffalo through Lancaster village eastward, and in the same year Daniel Robinson built the first sawmill in town at Bowmansville. In about 1810 Benjamin Bowman purchased this mill and built another, and ever since then the place has been designated by his name. The gristmills were owned by the Bowman family for about fifty years; the gristmill passed to John Pentelow and is now abandoned. Bowmansville also had a train station for the West Shore Railroad just off Maple Drive north of the hamlet.

Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button permits you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system located in your house.

Numerous companies offer mobile options, too. You can use these systems at home, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.
